ENHANCING BUSINESS PRODUCTIVITY WITH AI DRIVEN PODCASTS AND COLLABORATION TOOLS
NotebookLM, recently upgraded by Google, claims to be a significant step forward in AI-powered tools designed to enhance productivity across various sectors. We explored the multifaceted applications of NotebookLM, in particular its groundbreaking podcast generation capabilities.
We reviewed user feedback, case studies, and technical analysis, and this paper presents a detailed exploration of how NotebookLM can transform business operations, research, collaboration, and training initiatives.
Notable Features
Source Integration: Supports many types of source documents like PDFs, Google Docs and audio files, enabling easy consolidation of diverse information, but doesn’t support Microsoft Office formats.
AI Analysis: Automatically analyses and summarises documents, enhancing understanding of complex materials.
Interactive Chat: Offers a direct line to AI for Q&A including source citations.
Note-Taking Organisation: Transforms notes into structured formats such as outlines and briefs, streamlining information retrieval.
Podcast Generation: Converts text to engaging AI-narrated podcasts.
Our Testing
We tested NotebookLM by loading it with 50 resources (which is the maximum currently allowed) including documents, web links, and videos. We tested various scenarios including featuring our own AI research from Red Marble AI.
With minimal effort, NotebookLM generates various outputs including concise briefs, AI generated podcasts and interactive Q&A. The podcasts in particular are an interesting way of summarising then presenting back the information. The podcast generation capabilities are impressive, creating natural and engaging conversations varying in length from 10 to 25 minutes (in our testing), and typically take between 5 to 8 minutes to generate.
NotebookLM also offers predefined templates, such as the Brief Doc template, which summarises all the resources.

Training and Onboarding

Hitting the limits
NotebookLM currently only supports a maximum of 50 resources, indicating that it is not yet suitable for enterprise workloads. Adding resources manually to NotebookLM is straightforward but time-consuming, as each must be added one by one. We’re confident that both of these features will change in future releases.
To support Enterprise use, Google also needs support for Microsoft office doc formats which are widely used in business.
The podcast generation was surprisingly good and creates a fascinating new way of consuming content – particularly around onboarding new users or summarising daily notes about a shift, about sales calls or about helpdesk interactions. This creates a new user experience and we expect this feature will be the most relevant for businesses.
What’s next?
Google is actively enhancing NotebookLM for organisational use, developing a paid version, “NotebookLM Business,” with advanced collaboration tools for seamless team integration and project tracking. Future updates are expected to integrate seamlessly with business applications like Slack and CRM platforms, and include sophisticated analytics for data-driven insights, enhancing productivity and decision-making across various organisational levels.
We expect businesses will create automated pipelines to collect data from a enterprise systems to generate a daily summary for execs or team members – a daily briefing!

NotebookLM presents an interesting new way of presenting content with its AI-driven capabilities, particularly through its unique podcast generation feature. By enhancing research, collaboration, training, and dissemination processes, NotebookLM supports business efficiency and innovation. As it evolves, integrating new features and functionalities, we expect its impact to increase significantly.
